If you are looking for a versatile barn wedding venue that is full of character, Milling Barn should be on your shortlist. I’m Mike Readings, an award-winning wedding DJ and entertainer based in Hertfordshire, and I want to share with you why Milling Barn is one of my top venues!
Milling Barn is one of my favourite venues to DJ at, not only is it local to me, but I have got to know the venue and the staff really well, which helps your day run smoothly! Sitting in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, Milling Barn is a 17th-century oak barn with an adjoining dairy barn. The barn is bursting with character and sits on a family-run farm that is full of rustic charm and gives you lots of flexibility, meaning it is the perfect venue for your wedding day!

The important stuff
Not only is Milling Barn licenced to hold civil weddings and partnerships, but it can carry out outdoor and woodland ceremonies at Blunts Wood, a secluded woodland venue on site. You can also hire Milling Barn for just your wedding reception if you prefer. In terms of numbers, Milling Barn can accommodate up to 144 guests for a sit-down meal in the barn, and 120 seated guests in both the woodland venue and diary barn. You can then invite up to 250 guests for your evening reception, perfect for a party to remember!
The turn around
After your meal Milling Barn will move your guests to either the dairy barn or outside for drinks (depending on the weather). The dairy barn even has its own bar and toilets, so your guests will be well looked after whilst you go off to take your photos across the amazing looking grounds. As your guests are chatting, the amazing venue staff will be turning around the barn. Your guests won’t even notice as the barn is transformed ready for your evening reception.

The Evening
Personally, I think the evening reception is really where this venue shines! When your guests re-enter the barn they will be seriously impressed by the magical transformation. Once I’m set up the venue will look completely different, I also offer a range of luxury add ons that work perfectly at Milling Barn. From uplighters to your new married name projected onto the wall! There is space for a 12 x 12 ft dancefloor at Milling Barn, and I love seeing people dance the night away.
Cultural weddings
One place where Hatfield House shines is with their understanding when it comes to cultural weddings. The staff can put their hand to any wedding, with a specialist on staff for Jewish, Asian and Muslim weddings. Their amazing caterers can provide kosher meals, ensuring your day can go off without a hitch.

The layout
Being split across two levels means you can tailor the experience to your individual needs. With me set up on the ground floor, this opens up the upper mezzanine/balcony for whatever else you may want. It is the ideal space for a more chilled out area, a children’s space, or even a super fun photo booth!
Highly recommend
I highly recommended Milling Barn. The staff, in particular, are truly brilliant, to the point that you may not even notice them as they cut your cake, and turn your room around from day to evening.
